Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 stalks celery diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 large potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground meat over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the skillet and sauté until softened.
  4. Stir in garlic, peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. In a separate pot, boil the potatoes until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  7. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add milk, butter, cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper.
  8. Mash the potatoes until smooth and well combined. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  9. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture.
  10. Use a fork to create texture on the top of the mashed potatoes.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  12. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
